This is where his love for the catering business began. Frank’s drive, work ethic and incredible passion for the business led him to turning his dreams into reality. In 1987, he expanded the business – opening the doors of Russo´s On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York, for the first time. For more than 20 years, Russo´s On The Bay has been a tradition for family and friends celebrating life´s most important moments, from weddings to social gatherings to corporate meetings. Professional banquet consultants are available to help select the services and menus that are right for every occasion. Chefs work diligently to create new recipes, seasonal menus, and the finest cuisine in the two kitchens and an in-house bakery.
Frank Russo Jr. has been married –to his wife, Jamie, in 1983 and has three children who have worked for the family business Toni Ann, Frank Russo, III and Robert. Each has worked their way up the ranks to understand the many different aspects of the catering business. “I always tell my kids to treat a job like a sport, a hobby and a place you like to wake up in the morning to go to”, says Russo.
Over the years, he has successfully opened two other restaurants: Giardino Ristorante and Vetro Restaurant and Lounge. In addition to his business success, he has been rewarded time and time again for community involvement from receiving awards for the beautification of Cross Bay Boulevard to accolades and appreciation from several local non-profit and religious organizations. Frank Russo, Jr.’s proudest accomplishment is the children’s charity which he, his family and friends founded; Angels On The Bay. In 1995, the daughter of one of his closest friends was diagnosed with cancer. He, along with family and friends, began their mission to raise funds for pediatric care. Since its inception, Angels On The Bay has raised and donated over $3 million dollars for children in need of a little miracle.

Sofia Urrutia was first introduced to the Russo’s family of brands in 1984 when she began working for Frank Russo, Sr. at Villa Russo. When she first began her career at Villa Russo, she worked in the catering hall bussing tables, serving, and learning several other roles within the company. Her tenacity and desire for growth made her a perfect fit for a career at Russo’s brand locations. She worked diligently to learn many facets of the business from back of the house to front of the house functions. After just one year, she was brought into the sales office and trained in catering sales, office procedures, payroll, and operations by Frank Russo, Jr. and Frank Russo, Sr.
In 1987, Urrutia was asked to join the team Frank Russo, Jr. was building for his new location, Russo’s On The Bay. From the day that Russo’s On The Bay opened its doors and for the next ten years, Sofia was the Banquet Sales Manager and Office Manager for Russo’s On The Bay. Her passion for excellence and the highest level of customer service was a catalyst in creating the exceptional sales and service experience that Russo’s On The Bay is famous for.
Urrutia was married and, for the next ten years, took time to devote her energy to raising her children. She kept in continued communication with Russo, Jr. and stayed up to date on the progress of Russo’s On The Bay and its subsidiary locations. Sofia returned to work for Frank Russo, Jr. in the property management office, managing rents, billing, coordination, and general property management concerns. Her attention to detail and desire to create stronger processes again made her invaluable and helped her quickly move to the payroll office of Russo’s On The Bay. There, she acted as a liaison between carriers, attorneys, workers compensation, state boards, and more. In addition, she also helped to monitor and maintain all licensing for both operations.
In 2014, Urrutia was asked to return to her former role as Banquet Sales Manager and Office Manager for Russo’s On The Bay. As Banquet Sales Manager, Sofia brings more than just extensive experience to the Russo’s On The Bay consulting team – she brings a working knowledge of the commitment to excellence in customer service that has been a legacy in the Russo family for more than fifty years.
